8th November 2019

It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at Parents Evening this week. The hall was buzzing on Monday and Thursday evenings. Thank you to everyone who supported the 'pop up' book stall - we will let you know how much commission was earned during the evenings.

We have sent out information and booking details for all our festive arrangements in December. Please book seats for all the performances and for children's Christmas Lunch using our online booking system.

Thank you to parents and carers who have begun to support our collection for the Godmanchester and St Ives Food Banks. The first collection will be taken on Friday 29th November. The collection basket is in the office lobby area.  The tinned and dried foods which are particularly useful are: Cereal, Soup, Pasta, Rice, Tinned tomatoes, Pasta sauce, Lentils/Beans, Tinned meat, Tinned vegetables, Tea/Coffee, Tinned fruit, Biscuits, UHT milk, Fruit juice and Crisps.

Next week, week beginning 11th November 2019, is national Anti-Bullying Week. This year we will be focusing on kindness through the whole week, taking the theme of 'Be Kind'. Each class will be thinking and acting on this focus, including 'random acts of kindness'.

Reading Headlines

Updated 8th November 2019

We are a 'Reading School'

In 2018-19 the children in Years 2 - 6 read and quizzed on an amazing

83,626,920 words

today a reader quote

Amazing when we consider that the total words that we read in a WHOLE YEAR in our first year on the Accelerated Reader programme 6 years ago was 20 million words!

Latest Word Count: 8th November 2019

Current word count since the beginning of term: 16,897,176 words

Engaged Reading Time

We aim for a minimum of 20 minutes a day average 'engaged reading time'.

We provide every child with this much time to read in school each day. We ask that children also read at home as part of their home learning.

2019-20 Statistics

The average engaged reading time per day is incredible at the moment!

We aim for 20 minutes per day... look at these statistics:

Year Group Average Engaged Reading Time per day*
Year 3 36 minutes per day
Year 4 36 minutes per day
Year 5 43 minutes per day
Year 6 39 minutes per day

* This is an average of the class.

This year each class has consistently achieved an average engaged reading time in excess of 20 minutes a day. This reflects how much the vast majority of our children love reading. We know that children who have an engaged reading time of over 20 minutes a day are the children who do really well across the curriculum.
