Term Dates

Absence during term time

Parents have a responsibility to ensure that their children receive full time education. Regular attendance is essential if children are to progress with their learning. The school day is divided into two registration sessions so, for example, one day of absence will be recorded as two sessions. Information on school attendance can be found on the Cambridgeshire County Council website.

We fully understand that absences such as sickness and medical appointments are unavoidable. If your child is too unwell to attend school, please contact the school office on the first day of their absence, with the reason for their absence.

It is helpful if medical appointments can be arranged outside of school hours. If, however, appointments in school hours are unavoidable, please contact the school office to inform us of when you expect to collect and return your child. Children must be collected from the school office and signed in or out.

Regular attendance is essential for the continuity of your child’s education and their social and emotional wellbeing. Taking days away from school unnecessarily, or taking family holidays in term time, can be upsetting for children who may find it difficult to catch up with school work and friendships.

Therefore, we  would like to kindly remind you to book family holidays in the school holidays and not during term time. If for you have a request for a leave of absence during school term time, this must be requested in advance, in writing.

Download absence request form or contact the school office in person or by email office@houghton.cambs.sch.uk.
